Amoxicillin 400 mg (as amoxicillin trihydrate) and Clavulanic Acid 57 mg (as potassium clavulanate)

Composition:-  Amoxicillin 200 mg and clavulanic acid 28.5mg

Amoxicillin :-  It is antibiotic often used for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections.

 Clavulanic Acid:- It is a beta-lactam antibiotic.

Mode Of Action :-  

Amoxicillin :-  It is similar to penicillin in its bactericidal action against susceptible bacteria during the stage of active multiplication .it acts  through the inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis that leads to the death of the bacteria.

 Clavulanate Acid :- It is a  β-lactamase inhibitor. It is a semisynthetic beta-lactamase inhibitor isolated from Streptomyces. It contains beta-lactam ring and binds strongly to beta-lactamase at or near its active site , thereby hindering enzymatic activity.  

Indications and usage:-

Amoxicillin:-

It is used to treat different types  of infection caused by bacteria such as:

  • Tonsillitis
  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Infection of the ear ,nose, throat, skin and UTI

Clavulanate Acid :-

  • Common cold
  • Flu
  • Infection of the sinus
  • Infection of skin
  • Infection of lung and bladder

Side effects:-

Amoxicillin:-

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Muscle ache
  • Increased thirst
  • Dark urine
  • Bleeding gums
  • Cough
  • Fever

Clavulanate Acid :-

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Skin rashes
  • Itching
  • Diarrhea
